The largest annual conference of Bitcoiners started Wednesday in Miami, and if you’re following any of the folks that have made Bitcoin a large part of their life, then you’ve probably noticed they have made their way down there.
Today marks the start of the “main” part of the conference.
For the next few days or so, expect some major news to come out of South Florida. When it comes to this conference—that’s always true. For example, Nayib Bukele, president of El Salvador, used Bitcoin 2021 to announce his push for widespread adoption of the asset in that country.
What might happen this year?
That’s anyone’s guess, but I have a few thoughts about what we’re about to see:
Keep an eye on Jack Mallers. Strike’s fearless leader makes no apologizes for his goal of widespread Bitcoin adoption and the ascent of the Lightning network. Last week, he posted a series of mysterious tweets people interpreted as a forthcoming announcement about Apple’s embrace of the asset. Jack speaks today at 4:30 (ish).
Will Robinhood disappoint us again? Whatever you think of this company, Robinhood has brought many retail investors into the world of stock investing and cryptocurrency investing. Robinhood’s reps take the main stage just before 1:30 today, and the slate is only calling it a “Robinhood announcement.” Could be big, could be small.
Expect Senator Cynthia Lummis to make some news. The senator from Wyoming is a loud supporter of Bitcoin, and is hosting a fireside chat Friday afternoon. She sees Bitcoin and the industries that surround it as a huge opportunity for the US.
And because I know this will be a few big days—today’s newsletter is short. More to come on Sunday, once I’ve had a chance to digest what is about to happen.
Until then…
